Yes, you can rent a motorcycle. Just choose this option and a quality motorcycle from EagleRider will be prepared for you.

Is this ride suitable for Learner and Provisional riders?
No. Due to the distances travelled, and the technical nature of the roads, we recommend that you be fully licensed and are comfortable on your bike and in your gear. Though previous experience with trips such as this one is not necessary, we do suggest that you attend one of our trip preparation workshops if this is your first big trip.

What other costs am I likely to incur along the way?
Plan to pay for fuel, any other consumables for you bike, some national park entry fees, and a few sights along the way. There is so much to see and do!

What happens if my bike breaks down?
If your bike breaks down, it is your responsibility to get it repaired. Any costs incurred will be yours. We will of course assist as much as we reasonably can, which may include road-side repairs, getting your bike to the nearest workshop, and arranging a rental motorcycle. Unfortunately, if you find yourself without a motorcycle, you may need to rejoin the tour later, time permitting.

Do I need insurance?
We recommend that you have, at a minimum road side assist with coverage in Tasmania, and basic private health care, which included ambulance cover. You may want to look into travel insurance – please verify that any such insurance covers you for motorcycle riding!

What can I expect weather-wise?
Everything! Though we will be riding in summer, the weather this far south can be variable. You need to be prepared and able to ride in a variety of conditions including hot and cold weather, rain, and darkness.

Course Description

Come ride Tasmania in February 2017! Many have, and all who did rave about it. Isn’t it time you crossed this trip off your bucket list?

Tasmania packs a huge punch for its size. Practically every road is a joy to ride, produce is without peer, and the views are endless. Join an organised tour where your every need is looked after. The trip starts in Melbourne and includes:

  1. overnight ferry to and from the island (between Melbourne and Devonport)
  2. 6 nights in Tasmania in 3- and 4-star accomodation
  3. continental breakfast (excluding days when disembarking the ferry) and two course dinner daily
  4. route sheets, GPS files and useful trip information such as history, sights and rest stops
  5. lead rider
  6. mechanic and medic
  7. sweep vehicle (ute with trailer, able to transport bikes if required)
  8. on-the-fly rider training and tips & tricks from a former motorcycle paramedic and his crew

Skill Master events are all about community. Riders usually ride together, enjoying the camaraderie and joy that is synonymous with a gaggle (?) of riders on the road, or enjoying a good meal. You are of course free to travel as you wish, though the sweep vehicle will depart at pre-determined times.

Accomodation will be shared cabins on the ferry (two riders per four-berth cabin) and shared accomodation while riding (two riders per room). You can upgrade to single occupancy for an additional cost.

You have the option if also purchasing a three-day two-night ride from Sydney to Melbourne, taking in some fabulous roads and sights along the south coast of New South Wales, and a two-day one-night return ride from Melbourne to Sydney, traveling along amazing roads in the Snowy Mountains. Lastly, bike hire is available through our friends at Eagle Rider.
